VIDEO: Committee recommends $40K study for Lansdale Business Improvement District

Despite Mayor Andy Szekelys insistence on making a public Request for Proposal, the boroughs Economic Development Committee recommended that a study for the formation of a Business Improvement District (BID) go before council.

Szekely cast the lone dissenting vote.

Pleased with the past performance of the Delta Development Group, the Mechanicsburg-based consulting firm hired last year to help develop the boroughs Madison Parking Lot, borough Manager Timi Kirchner endorsed the firms submitted outline for researching an as-yet-undefined Lansdale Business Improvement District.

If approved, over the course of 10 months, Delta would define the area, compare it with other BIDs, create a steering committee, conduct a community survey, and develop a BID plan, Kirchner told the committee.

Delta is a firm that has been vetted … through the parking authority of the borough as a strong economic development firm. And we knew that Delta has experience with business improvement districts of all forms in different communities, Kirchner said, noting that the administration and finance committee gave them a thumbs-up.

The project is budgeted at a maximum of $40,000, plus a maximum of $3,000 for additional reasonable and ordinary expenses. The cost would be offset by the $150,000 earmarked for seeding the Discover Lansdale 501(c)3, as well as hiring a BID coordinator.

This is probably the biggest project for Lansdale to come around in 50 years, said Szekely, citing a conversation he had with administration and finance chairman Dan Dunigan who also chairs the parking authority.

Lets not rush through it, Szekely said, wanting to allow three months for additional proposals.

Dunigan, however, likened Delta to somebody hitting home runs and warned against analysis paralysis. Continued…

How far right can we go?

While not enjoying the luxury of a decade researching right to work, there is no science that supports those who profess RTW benefits the economy or its workers.

Ample evidence shows that in RTW states, not only is the income gap between the upper and middle classes greater, but there is correspondingly more crime.

Furthermore, in right-to-work states, fewer employers offer health care insurance or co-funded pensions.

In RTW Florida, where I lived half the year for 15 years, the zeitgeist is so extremely right of center that towering condos usually block the ocean views from the majority of citizens who call Florida home.

Florida is a favorite go-to land for the uber-rich, because its infamous welfare for the wealthy shines brighter than its sun.

Personally, I can hardly wait until our democracy takes a similar sharp right turn toward inheritocracy.

For the most of us who run the engine of America, our lifestyle, our dignity, our health care continue to diminish, while those who primarily bet on its success become rich beyond belief.

How to fix the Illini: Part 3

Paul Klee spent the week at Ubben Basketball Complex researching whats wrong with Illinois. The third of his five findings:

Show of support

In 11 seasons on the Illinois staff, Wayne McClain seldom has experienced more aggravating losses than the consecutive defeats to Penn State and Wisconsin. The gloomy mood around Ubben Basketball Complex reflected the coaching staff’s disappointment. “It eats at you. You go back and relive every moment,” said McClain, the longest-tenured coach on the staff. “I’m watching tape (of Minnesota) and I just have to (pause the video) because you can’t stop thinking about it.” The players, however, always recover quicker than the coaches. “Practice has been real aggressive,” veteran Brandon Paul said. “I think coach is going to have us prepared.” And their confidence doesn’t seem to be shaken. That includes their confidence in the staff. “He knows what he’s doing,” Bertrand said.

Absolute Rights Newsletter Publishes The Ten Hunting Commandments For Survival …

Absolute Rights newsletter helps hunters ramp up with survival preparedness by researching the best hunting procedures, condensing them, and publishing them as the Ten Hunting Commandments.

Austin, TX. (PRWEB) January 25, 2012

Preparedness is a major key for survival when hunting, Absolute Rights understands, that is why Absolute Rights spent countless hours researching the best hunting practices. Then Absolute Rights began to sift through all the research and information that was gathered, looking for the core pieces that were important for hunting preparedness. Absolute Rights took all that information they had condensed to make up the Ten Hunting Commandments, for hunters to use as reference material.

These Ten Hunting Commandments make a great emergency management resource, says Absolute Rights, because even though most of them come down to common sense it is always better to be safe than sorry. Absolute Rights says, the Ten Hunting Commandments should be reviewed every time a person prepares for a hunting expedition, or when they are going to use any of their hunting equipment, especially weapons.

Absolute Rights feels with spring quickly approaching and warmer weather ahead, no time is as good as the present to go over the Ten Hunting Commandments safety rules. Though most, if not all, of the Ten Hunting Commandments are common sense for most hunters, it never hurts to retrace safety steps before heading out hunting, remarks the Ten Hunting Commandments.

Here are the Ten Hunting Commandments:

1) Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction and away from people.

2) Keep firearms unloaded whenever they are not in use.

3) Dont rely on a guns safety.

4) Be sure about where the target is and what lies beyond it.

5) Use the proper ammunition for the occasion.

6) If the weapon fails to fire when pulling the trigger, handle with care. (refer to the previous Absolute Rights newsletters for more instructions)

7) Always wear ear and eye protection when shooting.

8) Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before firing.

9) Do not alter or modify a gun and have it serviced regularly.

10) Learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the firearm being used.

Subscribe to the Absolute Rights newsletter to stay continually updated and informed by the Absolute Rights broad panel of experts, on subject matter ranging from legal challenges to survival techniques, from macro-economics to the best way to buy and sell gold, and everything in between.

Historians researching for new publication of east division of Ashfield

Dear Editor,

In the last couple of months a volunteer group of historians have met to research the history of the east division of Ashfield Township, Nile to Lucknow and Shephardton to Lochalsh. A new book published book will replace ‘Frontier Ways to Modern Days’ (Concessions 8 to 14) printed in 1976 and ‘From Bush Trails to Present Tales’ printed in 1980 of Concession1 to 7. It was written 40 years ago.

We will be correcting mistakes and adding information that has come to our attention.

The land ownership has been compiled for each farm from the crown to today. Family trees that we do not need are listed at www.acwtownship.ca or phone 519-528-3710.

We have found many interesting people who had their beginnings in Ashfield such as Murray Dryden, the founder of the charity Sleeping Children Around the World. His grandparents Andrew and Margaret Murdoch Dryden lived at Burnside Farms, Paramount, Highway 86.

We have a list of families from the 1881 Census who have no lot or concession numbers. These residents are no doubt living in the log cabins, which have been vacated by the farm owners who have built new frame, stone or brick homes.

If you enjoy just writing the stories of your family farm, we would like you to join us on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 1:30 pm at the home of Warren and Marian Zinn.

Marian Zinn,

RR2 Lucknow
